Therestoration
activity of the Association began during the
postwar period, when because
of
the bombings a large part of the mosaic heritage needed timely interventions.
The
preservative experience of the group occurred on the field , that is to
say during the
interventions
on the S.Vitale Cathedral and on the Battistero Neoniano,
at
the beginning under the guidance of the
Opificio
delle Pietre Dure in Florence.

The
method of lifting, initiated with the collaboration of Florence, and perfected
by the Group in the fifties and sixties, was definitely abandoned
in 1978 for the parietal mosaics, but reiterated for the floor ones.
Nowadays
the restoration follows a partially different path, characterised, besides
from an attentive documentation, from different techniques and materials,
put ready by staffs of chemists and researchers who collaborate in a more
and more active way to the different steps of intervention.
It
is for this purpose that the Association got fortified by the active and
constant collaboration with C.N.R. - IRTEC
(seat of Ravenna) run by doctor C.Fiori.
At
this point we list some of the restoration yards carried out during more
than fifty years of activity: S.Vitale Cathedral,
Galla Placidia Mausoleum, S.Apollinare Nuovo Cathedral and S.Apollinare
in Classe, Neoniano and Ariani Baptistery, Archiepiscopal Chapel, S.Francesco,
S.Severo in Classe, Roman Villa in Russi;
in Ravenna the restoration of parts of the mosaics coming from the more
important archaeological unit found in Via Massimo D'Azaglio have been
carried out as well.
Other
yards have been held in several towns in Italy, among which we list: Grado,
Aquileia, Pomposa, Pesaro, Ancona, Salerno, Calle, Grumentum, Bova Marina
and many others. |
