The close connection with the mosaics of the past has allowed to improve the knowledge and, as a consequence, to refine the techniques for the production of copies from the antiquity. 

Generally the production of copies had  to satisfy the reasons of prestige of the customers, which often were in contrast with the real interest for the classic culture. However, this heritage of priceless value could not have been spread outside the state boundaries without the aid of the copies. 
The patterns were obtained from cartoons and the direct imprint  of the original mosaic surface with moulds. 
Other guide factors were the samples of  ancient tesserae, rightly for the choice of the colours. 
For this purpose in the fifties the Association held a "Travelling Exhibition" made up of 200 mosaics belonging to Ravenna, which toured all over the world and is still accomplishing its arranged  informative tasks. 
The interest for our artistic heritage has grown together with the improvement of mass tourism. For a correct  development the Ministry has set up the "additional  services" with the Act n.4/93 (Ronchey) that has renewed the use system of the Arts and their copies as well.
